"Big Gun"
creation story
Everything starts with the painting "Big Gun" by Chinese artist Liu Dongzi.
The monkey in the painting, the expression is swaying. Wearing leather and jeans, with a revolver on his waist, standing in the wilderness like the Monument Valley in the United States, a western movie smells like a face. The name "Big Gun" comes from a classic piece from Liu Dongzi's hard rocking band "AC/DC". The Tee worn by the monkey is the first album of the gorgeous hard rocking band "Guns N'Roses" "Desire of Destruction".
Therefore, the visual element contained in the painting "Big Gun" is the crystallization of Liu Dongzi's tribute to rock music and western movies. At the beginning of the creation of "Big Gun", Liu Dongzi finished the monkey and painted a motorcycle, but the composition was too full and the body painting was very cramped, so Liu Dongzi wiped off the motorcycle and eventually became the present. A strange monkey stands in the wilderness, as if something big is about to happen. Liu Dongzi said with a smile: This painting is a typical example of his own creation. It doesn't matter, cool is enough.
Under the planning of the last craftsman, the three-dimensional work of "Big Gun" was handed over to Japanese architect Midoro.
When I first saw Liu Dongzi's "Big Gun," Midoro felt that the monkey's lines and shapes were very handsome, and actually felt the world full of vitality in the picture. While appreciating the painting, she evokes her imagination and curiosity about the character's background story. In the process of actually carving the monkey, in order to express the brush strokes of the painting character, Midoro uses a scraper to sculpted the shadows, making the three-dimensional shape look thicker. In the portrayal of the details, Midoro intends to present a visual sense of the statue "even if it is powerful, but it does not make people feel rude." Therefore, in each part, a great deal of effort has been made to create a work that is infused with the soul of the creator.
Midoro believes that the "Big Gun" monkey head carving is the most unique and most expressive image she has ever carved, and it is very happy to make it. For the last time, Mido invited Midoro to engrave a real-faced head carving for the "Big Gun", allowing the statue to replace the monkey head carving and the real head carving. She is also very happy with this idea, saying that this real head carving is the most youthful image of her creation.
"Big Gun" not only puts a lot of energy into the original work and sculpture, but also paints it with great care. The tattoo on the neck of the monkey and the pattern setting on the back of the leather are all done by Dapeng, the artistic director of the studio. Tattoos, locomotives, and rock music are popular cultures that many boys like. The "Big Gun" itself adds tattoo elements to meet Dapeng who likes retro, military uniforms and leather, as well as those who like these cultures. These patterns and tattoos, samples are added by Dapeng pure hand-painted, because the size of the work itself is much smaller than the real person, so Dapeng needs to use a very soft soft brush instead of a tattoo machine or a hard pen, the difficulty will increase. less. There is no better solution to this process, only patience.
