The V-22 Osprey is a tilt rotor aircraft change with vertical takeoff and landing capability and short takeoff and -landef?higkeit. The first flight of the prototype took place in 1989, the introduction in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps takes place beginning 2005.
The main structural feature, the two rotors of a helicopter with similar transverse rotors arranged side by side and together with their engines pivotally suspended at the ends of the wing about the transverse axis of the aircraft. In the vertical position of the engines, the propellers rotate horizontally and can generate lift during takeoff and landing like a helicopter. For the cruise, the aircraft swung both propeller gondolas with the rotors 90 degrees forward and becomes a conventional turbo-prop aircraft with appropriate travel speed. For safety, both rotors are connected in the event of an engine failure with a transmission shaft.
